Junction Released!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to pass along a note to let you know that I have just released Junction to the public! Check it out at the Junction homepage.

I am currently trying to find out how I can release Junction to the WordPress theme directory. At the moment, WordPress only accepts normal themes, and not child themes. I will keep you in the loop if and when Junction is added.

Thanks so much everyone. Take care.

    Junction looks very polished and well thought out. Congratulations for the release!

    Also, re. child themes on WP theme directory, I have contacted them asking about this, and this is indeed still not possible, but is being planned. So please do bug them about it :D

    Thanks very much, Hafiz.

    I have contacted WordPress about including Child Themes in the directory. I haven’t heard anything back.

    They would especially be a great idea for WordPress.com, where if the user selects Thematic (or another Theme Framework), they can import/upload their own child theme to customize it.

    perhaps Ian would publish it, or link to it on his website?

    @Kevin: Ian has posted a tweet, and has planned to do a post on his blog at themeshaper.com.

    Have I mentioned I like this theme? ;) Awesome job, Pat. Terrifically honored/flattered/everything-good-ed to have you put this out there.

    Oh and the last time I tried to post a comment your site went down. I’m glad to see that’s changed. :)

    Thanks so, so much Ian. It means a lot the support you’ve shown, but technically and through the release process.

    Hi Pat, congrats on a great looking theme. I love the the layout and the whole look in general.

    I hope WP allows posting of child themes soon, this is an absolutely awesome concept and a very BIG step forward in theme development.

    Hi, Pat,

    Not sure if it’s by design, and I expect it isn’t, but in FF 2.0.0.16 on Linux, the top half or so of “Music, Design, Life” is hidden under the blog title “Pat Dryburgh.” I expect this is an edge case of sorts. It’s quite obvious, that niggle notwithstanding, that you’ve got a beautiful design here. Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

    Is your browser displaying the sIFR font? If not, I believe there is a bit of a padding issue, which I have to figure out a solution for.

    Any ideas, anyone?

    Thanks for checking out the site and the theme!

    Looks great, Pat. Nice use of sIFR, those post titles are slick!

    Also, thanks for the link on your blog roll, I’m honored.

    Hmm. I’ll check. I’m at work now (in name if not in spirit), and using the same version of FF on XP. No padding issues. I think my home rig’s using the sIFR font, but I can’t say for sure. I might need to update the Flash version (noticed that in the release notes after posting the first comment).

    I’ve been poking at your theme tonight because I *really* like it but it annoyed me that it didn’t work in IE 6 due to the PNG transparency. I just used the fix from http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/ to tidy it up. Works nicely now and only really needs a few lines.

    Oh, and to fix the floating column problem in IE6 you need to add something like this to your style sheet:

    #container { width: 500px; margin:0; }

    Send me a note if you plan to make an update to the theme and I can send you the “hacks”. Jeff

    Hey Jeff,

    I’ve made the update to this site for the .png fix. Would you mind checking it for me to see if the fix works?

    I’ve also included the #container css code. Let me know if that looks right now! Thanks!

    The columns are fine now. Thanks!

    As for the png fix, I did the following in a new function in your functions.php to make it work on my test server (lets hope it doesn’t munge this when I post):

    div .comment-number, div .comment-number-zero { behavior: url('.$baseurl.'iepngfix.htc) }
    div .entry-utility, body.home div.category-asides { background: #3c3f46 }

    The important part is the “behavior: url(iepngfix.htc)” as this applies the fix. Unfortunately, many of the background blocks don’t work out with just this fix and I had to fake the background colour of some of the divs. I didn’t hit them all as I just noticed that the blockquote does the same png background. Basically, everywhere that you are using aside_bg.png needs to be looked at and faked out for the old IE versions.

    I hate IE but unfortunately, the vast majority of my site visitors use IE and the scary part is almost half of them are still using IE 6 or older. Like I said, I really like your theme (and Thematic) and want to use it as a base for my site redesign. That means fixing the stuff that makes it break in IE. :)
